Solar PV SPD
The CSMS series of dedicated surge protective device for AC & DC power in new energy photovoltaic(PV) systems have passed the lightning protection tests conducted by professional national testing institutions and are applicable to areas with high lightning risk (LPZ2 or the transition zone between LPZ2 and LPZ3). All the products adopt overvoltage protection components with excellent nonlinear characteristics. Under normal circumstances, the surge protector is in a high-resistance state with extremely low leakage current, ensuring the normal power generation of the photovoltaic system. When overvoltage occurs in the system, the CSMS series of photovoltaic system-specific surge protectors will immediately conduct within nanosecond timeframes, limiting the voltage amplitude within the safe working range of the equipment, and releasing the surge energy into the ground.
Our Solar PV SPD

SOLUTIONS
FAQ
What information is needed to select PV SPD?
You need to provide PV system voltage, inverter type, combiner box design, grounding system, installation environment, and whether the project has an external lightning protection system.
Can CRESIN provide SPD solutions for 1500V solar PV systems?
Yes. CRESIN can provide PV surge protective devices suitable for high-voltage solar PV systems, including 1000V and 1500V DC applications.
What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 PV SPD?
Type 1 PV SPD is used where direct lightning current may enter the system, especially in exposed installations or systems with external lightning protection. Type 2 PV SPD is used to protect against induced surges and is common in most PV applications.
Do solar PV systems need both DC SPD and AC SPD?
Yes. The DC side protects PV strings and inverter DC inputs, while the AC side protects the inverter output and grid-connected distribution system. A complete PV surge protection design usually includes both sides.
What voltage should I choose for solar PV SPD?
The voltage rating should match the maximum DC voltage of the PV system. Common PV SPD voltage ratings include 600V DC, 1000V DC, 1200V DC, and 1500V DC.
Where should SPD be installed in a solar PV system?
SPD is usually installed on the DC side of the inverter, in the PV combiner box, and on the AC output side of the inverter. For larger PV plants, SPD may also be installed in distribution cabinets and monitoring systems.
What is a solar PV surge protective device?
A solar PV surge protective device is designed to protect photovoltaic systems from transient overvoltage caused by lightning strikes, induced surges, or switching operations.
